Face recognition & Turnstiles on the IIHF World Championship 2011
The Ondrej Nepela Stadium in Bratislava which hosted most of the matches of the IIHF World Championship 2011 is equipped with this modern technology. The system has integrated turnstiles and it scans visitors directly when they are passing it. When required, it stops the visitor from entering. Both the turnstiles and the facial recognition system coped with the great invasion of visitors without any problems - as many as 300,000 people passed them, however, there were no delays at the entrance. The securing of the entry was appreciated by both organizers and visitors. What is more, the system was helpful in cooperation with the police corps in investigating cases of stealth and falsifying tickets.
